Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Whilst your Doctor will undoubtedly offer medication, it is likely they will also offer other forms of therapy as well. Take what they offer. If you don’t find it helpful then go back and ask for alternatives. If you are looking for a form of depression therapy that does not include medication, then why not try Cognitive Behavioual coaching as a natural depression treatment. You can always add medication into your treatment for depression at a later date, if you feel you need to.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a form of depression counselling which is designed to help you change the negative thoughts that a depressed patient will have.
I have spent a lot of time with a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and am grateful for the opportunity to have this depression treatment. It won’t help with depression for everybody, because it can be hard work and takes discipline. You get homework and it is all geared up to change the way we allow negative thought patterns to affect our mood.
I found this very useful. It takes some work, but will hopefully stay with you for life. It teaches you the difference between unhelpful thought processes and how they affect our mood. The therapy tries to teach you how to avoid spending time ruminating over and over about things you can do nothing about, as this will continue to bring your mood down.
You will need to go into this with an open mind. It takes practise but it is really useful and a great life skill to have when you have mastered some of the things they teach you. There are loads of Cognitive Behavioural Therapists in the UK and it is available on the NHS. If you want to find out more about CBT visit www.babcp.com. They also have a search engine which allows you to find a list of therapists locally.
